Is the Lalo high chair worth the price compared to alternatives?

Investing in a high chair (or picking one to add to your registry) is a big decision. But I’m here to tell you, investing in a high-quality, super functional option is definitely the way to go.

You can absolutely get a high-chair for under $100 these days. In fact, there are some that are under $50. However (and I know the saying is cliche), you really do get what you pay for when it comes to baby gear. Do you have to go all out on your high chair? Not unless you want to, but as a mom, and a pregnancy and parenting writer, I’m here to tell you that if you are going to spend money on something, let it be your little one’s high chair.

I’ll also tell you that Lalo’s high chair options are some of the best, and in my opinion, worth how much they cost in quality and functionality. Here’s why:

Lalo’s Hook-On High Chair

When it comes to Lalo’s most portable high chair, there are so many reasons it’s worth the $90 price tag. Here’s what you’ll get:

  • It folds up and comes with a bag: All I have to say is, game. changer.

  • You can wipe it clean: Need I say more?

  • It has an adjustable footrest: This is something most others on the market don’t have, and makes it usable for longer (hello toddler stages!).

  • It comes with a silicone tray that is dishwasher safe: This is a must when you’re cleaning up multiple baby meals each day.

  • You can throw the fabric cover in the washer: There’s nothing better than not having to hand wash baby things.

  • It hooks on safely, without any tools: When you’re on the go, there’s no time to whip out tools to hook it on.

  • It has a three-point safety harness: No worrying about safety, ever.

  • It will grow with your child, up to 37 pounds: Something I always look for in baby products is longevity and this one will truly last well into toddlerhood.

Solid Starts Feeding Expert Kimberly Grenawitzke, OTD, OTR/L, SCFES, IBCLC, CNT

says, “The footrest matters more than you think. A footrest isn't just a nice extra — it gives babies and toddlers a stable base, which helps them stay seated, focused, and better regulated at mealtimes.”

Lalo’s The Chair

The Chair is Lalo’s version of the typical free-standing high chair meant for mealtimes at home. Here’s everything that makes this high chair worth it.

  • It has wipeable silicone straps: This feature is brilliant, since all you have to do is wipe them down with soap and water!

  • Its cushion can go in the washing machine: Simply remove the cushion and wash it in your washing machine, a game-changer after messy meals.

  • The tray is dishwasher safe: Like the Hook On, the tray on this one is wipeable, but it can also go on the top rack of the dishwasher.

  • It’s made of only smooth surfaces: No more cleaning out crevices, this high chair is super easy to wipe down thanks to its smooth design.

  • It’s easy to assemble: You’re busy enough, so setting this up happens in a flash.

  • It has an adjustable foot rest: Occupational and physical therapists alike love high chairs with footrests, and this one is adjustable so that it can grow with your child

We know that high chairs are an investment, but choosing one that’s safe, easy to clean, and easy to set up is so worth it. Peace of mind goes a long way, and I can tell you that Lalo’s high chairs deliver on all fronts. I promise you won’t be disappointed (and can come back to thank me later!).

FAQS

1. What should I look for when buying a high chair?
When choosing a high chair, prioritize safety, ease of cleaning, and longevity. Look for features like a secure harness, a stable base or sturdy hook-on design, dishwasher-safe trays, and materials that wipe clean easily. Bonus points if it grows with your child. Adjustable footrests and higher weight limits make a big difference.

2. Are expensive high chairs really worth it?
In many cases, yes. Higher-quality high chairs tend to be easier to clean, safer, and more durable. If you’re using it multiple times a day (which you will), investing in something functional and long-lasting can actually save you time, stress, and money in the long run.

3. What is the difference between a hook-on high chair and a traditional high chair?
A hook-on high chair attaches directly to a table and is great for travel or small spaces. A traditional (freestanding) high chair is designed for everyday use at home and typically offers more features like adjustable heights and trays. Many parents find having both options incredibly convenient.

4. At what age can a baby start using a high chair?
Most babies are ready for a high chair around 4 to 6 months old, once they can sit up with support and have good head and neck control, says the American Academy of Pediatrics. Always check the manufacturer’s guidelines and your pediatrician’s recommendations before starting.

5. Why is an adjustable footrest important in a high chair?
An adjustable footrest supports proper posture and helps your baby feel more stable during meals. Experts in feeding and development often recommend footrests because they can improve comfort and even encourage better eating habits.
