Jay, Candice, Rainer (2), and Paolo (11 months)
Q. What are your hobbies?
Candice: Travel, design, art.
Jay: Jazz, piano, poetry.
Q. Did becoming a parent change your identity?
Candice: I was so determined to “keep my identity” after becoming a mom. But now, two years in, I’m (mostly) fully embracing how I am changed.

Q. How has parenting shifted your relationship to your hobbies?
Jay: Rather than protecting a separate sense of self in my passions, I have been surprised how much of creativity and aliveness now get fueled by being with my kids.
Candice: Having two kids, 15 months apart, meant that the last two years were really just about surviving. Even though we can’t do everything we used to, I feel like we’ve found ways to incorporate our passions into our lives bit by bit.
Q. Do your little ones share your interests?
Jay: There’s something about seeing our kids make up songs with nonsense words or bang at the piano.
Candice: It’s so beautiful to watch Jay share his passion for language with the boys. I’ll come into the kitchen and he’ll be reading poetry to the kids during snack or meal time.

Q. What advice would you give to new parents?
Candice: Be kind to yourself! There is so much pressure and expectation already involved with becoming a parent that we need to give ourselves grace.
Q. What are your favorite Lalo products?
Jay: We love the table and chairs, which are a centerpiece of daytime play and eating.
Candice: We’ve been using all the tableware since our oldest, Rainer, was six months old. We’ve now passed on a lot of it to Paolo.
